I’ve been doing research for the current book I’m writing on different and obscure forms of divination. The type I’m using in the book is Aleuromancy. What that means is it’s a way to tell the future by using flour or flour-based products like cakes and cookies. You can either read the patterns in the flour (kinda like tea leaves) or read a message basked into dough like fortune cookies. Let’s just say I found some others I wanted to share that I don’t think I will ever use.
Tiromancy – which is telling the future by reading the patterns of mold in cheese. (That has to be some moldy cheese.)
Daphnomancy – Reading the coming events by interpreting the cracking sounds of burning laurel leaves.
Molybdomancy – Divining the shapes created by pouring molten metal into the water.
Geloscopy (sounds more like what they do to examine your bowels) – Figuring out the sounds of laughter and how they spell out one’s future.
Libanomancy – Studying the patterns in smoke from incense.
Alphitomancy – Determining someone’s guilt based on whether a they successfully digest a piece of blessed cake (Eww)
There are more of course, but those were the weirdest ones I thought to list. Any of them could make it into a book. I’m sure I might put one in here or there.
Do you have a weird one that you like to use?
