This week I’m headed up to the SAGA writing conference in Charlotte NC. Writers of all levels of experience will gather to learn from our extraordinary faculty. We’ll have pitch opportunities and peer mingling, and even a few chances to buy books.
SAGA was created in response to professionals who wanted a genre based conference within driving distance of the East Coast. We focus on science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, thriller and romance, all the genres people are crazy about. Our classes are presented by a hand-picked faculty who are pleased to share their knowledge with the up-and-comings.
Why should you consider attending? For one thing, you can meet others like yourself. Writing can be a lonely business, and humans are social creatures who need the occasional outlet. A writing conference offers you a chance to meet others who know the trials of the writing life, and creators whose work you admire, in a socially acceptable fashion. (Much nicer than hiding in the bushes and peeping in their windows, In my opinion. And far less likely to get you arrested.)
What will you learn? We’ll be teaching how to create newsletters, how to craft believable dialogue, how to write characters who aren’t like you without slipping into harmful stereotypes, what your editor wants from you, the ethics of AI, and so much more. Our faculty looks at the current publishing landscape when they design their classes, so you can be sure the information you hear is timely and useful.
If you’ll be in the Charlotte area this weekend, we still have room for you to register in person and join the fun. Go to https://sagaconference.com/ for all the info. I hope I see you there!
