September Reading! Fall Romance, Pretty Covers, and How Susan Gets Nothing Done

Posted on September 8, 2025September 15, 2025 By Susan Roddey

Hey, y’all! It’s September, which means we’ve made it to my favorite time of year — the ‘ber months! Pumpkin spice is back (everybody looks at Lexx and me like we’re nuts, but we love it), and it’s almost time for sweater weather. To celebrate, let’s talk about… books! Fall romance, to be exact.

I’m the type that reads fall-themed romance year ’round because, well, life is too short to not read fun things. Given the state of the world right now, escapism is definitely on the table when it comes to my reading, so here’s a little bit of what’s been lurking on my kindle the last couple of weeks:

The Ex Hex (Erin Sterling)

This book is ridiculous and adorable…and also moderately spooky for people who want a good creep. It follows Vivi, a young witch in the town of Graves Glen who, as a teenager, hexes her ex-boyfriend, Rhys. Unfortunately, Rhys’ family are the founders of the town, and her adolescent rage-curse causes a bunch of hilarious drama. It’s a fast read, funny, spicy, and introduces a whole cast of fantastic characters. I actually read this one last year, but I just read it again because it was so much fun. Book 2 is on my shelf, and will soon be devoured.

    Fall I Want (Lyra Parish)

Read this one in a single night (last night, actually). Loved it. Yeah, the billionaire thing is kind of overdone, but I love the doting boyfriend vibe. And the chemistry between these characters. Fake relationships are also one of my favorite tropes. The dialogue in this one is absolutely something to behold. It’s…spicy, but in a weird way. The lead-up is actually more satisfying than the action. And yes, I will be reading the other three in the series. Probably this week.

    Falling into Rhythm (Alexandra Christian)

Yeah, she’s one of the ‘gators… but y’all, this book does not get enough love. My darling Lexxie will never make me believe she didn’t write this book specifically for me because y’all. SERIOUSLY. Small town. Single dad. ROCK STAR. This book, and all of Crawford’s Landing, is beautiful. The spice level is pretty low (closed-door for those who don’t like that sort of thing), but the romantic feelings are high. It’s a sweet, cozy read with a happy ending and everybody should read it at least once. (Then maybe she’ll finish book 2 for me. Please pester her about it every chance you get!)

I’m moving back into Ali Hazelwood territory now, then next up are Laurie Gilmore’s “Dream Harbor” series — The Pumpkin Spice Cafe, to be exact — and Hailey Frost’s “A Love Like Pumpkin Spice” because I’m a sucker for an adorable cover and the ratings are good.

If you’ve got any recommendations, let me know. I’m always up for adding to the TBR of doom.

I’m crawling back into my Kindle now. See y’all next week.
